Phoenix Dance Theatre

Students from Commonweal watched Phoenix Dance Theatre perform at the Wyvern Theatre on Tuesday June 14th.
The dance troupe presented their latest repertoire 'Inter Vivos'.

This triple bill featured dance -theatre pieces from their director, Darshan Singh Bhuller, entitled ' Eng-er-land' incorporating film and multimedia elements. The UK premier of Didy Veldman's 'See Blue Through', a work inspired by the otherwordly movement of sea creatures. The mixed bill was completed by 'Forest' by Robert Cohan, a dance classic from the man widely acknowledged as father of British Modern Dance.

The programme was extremely diverse, with each piece representing a different style of contemporary dance. This was truly an excellent experience for both students and staff.

The dance education officer then visited the school to hold a day of workshops for KS3 and KS4students. The most important aspect was that the students were able to understand the concept of abstract contemporary dance. Phoenix Dance are an inspiration and we hope to work with them again next year.
