Louise Hunt
Louise Hunt, a University of Bath-based wheelchair tennis player, smashed through her previous bests to earn career high world singles and doubles rankings after completing back-to-back tournaments in South Africa. Her women’s singles world ranking broke the world top 20 barrier for the very first time.
The 18-year-old first year Sports Performance student from Wanborough, Wiltshire, has earned a career high singles ranking of No 18 after reaching the final of both the Border Open in East London and last the South African Open in Johannesburg. She was also a finalist in the women’s doubles at both tournaments.
“My tennis career would never have taken off if it was not for the support from all my teachers and staff at school. In order for me to maintain my world ranking I had to travel all over the world for tournaments which resulted in me often missing school time. However, due to the great support Commonweal gave me, I completed my GCSEs with all Cs and above. Balancing being an athlete with studies along with being a normal teenager can be difficult at times, but all the hard work is so worth it in the end,” Louise Hunt. Louise attended Commonweal from Sept 2002 – June 2007
