Summer Celebrations

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US !

The summer may not have lived up to expectations as far as the weather is concerned, but for all at Commonweal it has been a busy and rewarding term, with lots to celebrate, and one where expectations have often been exceeded.

We have just drawn the curtain on our Celebration Day, a focal point for much of what is best about Commonweal. We are justly proud of our 80 year history and although we have done a great deal to embrace change, we are also mindful of the strength which comes from valued traditions.

We are equally proud of the creativity, ability and confidence of our current crop of students, many of whom will have performed or participated in the day’s various events: they are the best ambassadors for the school who regularly do themselves and the school proud.

As much as anything, the day was an occasion to celebrate as a community. For students past and present, families and local residents, staff and governors, the day provided an opportunity to come together, work as a team and enjoy what the school has to offer, and my sincere thanks go to the PTA who once again demonstrated their commitment to the school.

Thanks also to Mike Bowden, director of Swindon Town Football Club for coming along with two players, Alex Rigley and Chris Allen, and also donating two signed tee-shirts which were raffled. Thanks to the Swindon Advertiser and local BBC Radio for promoting and supporting us. The day raised over £2,000 for PTA funds.
