The Commonweal school has recently made Andrew Stott an Artist in Residence. His unique art is the starting point for a more integrated approach to the arts and school life. Andrew started doing workshops after being approached by an arts centre who wanted to commission a show for the group D*Frost a group of like minded artists he was working with. It quickly became apparent that the Stencil process was a very powerful tool for education and allowed anyone of any ability to create and present finished pieces of art quickly.
Recent projects such as the upcoming 'Pollution’ show a collection of work produced by workshop students, that far exceeds their and others expectations of their abilities and sensibilities. This has shown how this can work in a school, it is the first of many more projects aimed at using the techniques of art to further illuminate and widen the appeal of other departments in the school and their use of the creative talents of the students in those disciplines.
