Swindon Festival Literature
7th Youth Poetry Slam
is project managed by Josie Williams, Community Arts Development Officer.

May and it’s that time of year again when the Poetry Slam competition comes to town! The Poetry Slam is part of the Swindon Festival of Literature and is a poetry competition run for students in Year 8 across all of the secondary schools in the Borough. It has become a bit of a Commonweal tradition to steal the show; we have won six out of the seven years it has been running for. Yet again this year saw some outstanding dedication, enthusiasm and creativity from our wonderful students.

The two teams that were put forward from the initial workshop were: PWA (Poets Wiv Attitood) consisting of April Psarras, Megan Davies,
and Harley Bunce. The team called Ohh was
made up of Chloe Hughes, Nina Hamley and Ellie O’Neill.

As a result of both teams’ excellent writing and performance skills we managed to sweep the board with PWA coming first and Ohh was hot on their heels in joint second place.

Congratulations all round from a very proud English Department.
