Musical Theatre Vocal Workshop
In May, ex student Shani Calder came into school to deliver this project. Shani is studying musical theatre at university and part of her coursework was a leadership session in musical theatre.
She came into school at the end of the day and delivered an interesting session on gaining confidence on stage and useful vocal warm up and projection techniques.
30 students identified as having a
'voice' were invited to take part. After the warm up and vocal sessions the students split into small groups of four or five and learnt a song which they performed to one another in the last half hour of the workshop. At the end of the session Shani sang a Jessie J number to the group.
Whilst at Commonweal Shani was encouraged by her tutor to get up on stage and perform. It was a delight to see a once very shy performer bloom into a very confident young lady. The students loved her and she is hoping to return to school for further workshops in September.
