On Tuesday 5th October all of Yr 9 had the opportunity to see pop star Shirin and rappers BYOB perform in the recently refurbished school hall. This tied in to our PSHE program. Shirin gave an inspirational talk about her career to date and sang some of her songs. The girls especially really warmed to her and some spent most of their lunch break chatting to her.

She has agreed to become a patron to the performing arts and will be back in the school in the near future to hold a vocal and stagecraft workshop. Thank you Shirin, you are a top lady!

This was followed by BYOB who also sang and spoke of their experiences of knife and gun crime. Enforcing that violence is not the way to live a happy and peaceful life.

Year 9 PSHE Assembly

This week’s year 9 PSHE assembly was of somewhat an exception to usual: we all had our “Best Shoes” on. To start off with, we had a performance from the 19
year old singer song writer Shirin, an upcoming star
from Portsmouth. She performed 3 Tracks of original
music and then allowed the students to have a
Q and A session about her life and career. It wasn’t
just a concert for our pleasure, it was an inspiring
speech of how she met her aspirations when she
put her mind to it and so can we.

To follow was an act called BYOB, a mixed genre artist that revolves around drum and bass, dubstep and breakbeat. He raised the roof as it were, ironically to his track “Chilling”. He also talked to us about knife crime and told us a chilling story of a personal friend of his who was killed in a knife incident.

Everyone in the year enjoyed this assembly, and it was a great event. But to other’s it was inspirational and has spurred many on to pursue them in a musical career.
