PluckIn order to celebrate the school's refurbishment we staged an Evening of Entertainment in September to an invited audience who have been involved with this 15 month project. Entertainment was provided by the cream of Commonweal students, past and present and the highly acclaimed classical chamber ensemble Pluck. Pluck put a comedy twist into well known classical pieces and are the funniest performance we have seen in a long time. They were well received recently at the Edinburgh Fringe. During the day Pluck worked with our Concert Band to enhance the students performance skills through unusual techniques such as playing their instruments as if they were all manner of emotional animals! Concert Band then played in the evening concert. “I was delighted to have been able to join staff and parents on Thursday 23rd September to see some of the wealth of performing talent that we have at Commonweal School. From talented Classical pianists to exciting acoustic guitar and vocals, the students at Commonweal are demonstrating excellence in the field of Performing Arts," Robert Buckland MP South Swindon. Student comments regarding the workshop "It was fun and helpful, because they taught me new techniques," Hannah Burkhardt. "It was great because it was a fun way to learn more about music," Casey Hindon. "It was great to meet Pluck and I have gained a lot more knowledge!" Sam Cantlon. "Very good, I have gained a lot of useful skills," Joshua Mulcock. "It made me think about music in a different way," Ella McCusker. "I really enjoyed this project, because it was especially fun to perform with new people and interesting to take on new ideas," Sian Francis-Cox Head teacher Keith Defter and students Sam Cantlon and Alice Baker talk on BBC Wiltshire's Graham Mack Breakfast Show 22nd September 2010 about the latest school events including the celebratory Evening of Entertainment and the recent school refurbishment.
