Old Town Festival This is the second year we have provided the performing arts marquee at the Lawns. This year we extended the time to allow even more groups to perform. The marquee was packed all day and we had many people come up and thank us for a wonderful afternoon. I project managed the event and booked in 18 different acts. It was a long hot day starting at 8am and the final load of equipment was packed at 10.30pm! A massive thanks to Nick Weaver our arts technitian for his dedication and sheer hard work, I really don’t know what we would do without him. Thanks also to the Music and Dance epartmenst at Commonweal for honing the students skills for some great performances, much of which was achieved in their own time Thanks also to the students who stayed behind and helped pick up rubbish. Thank you also to Victor and Calum Chamberlain for voluntary giving up their time rigging and derigging the tent. Thanks also to Ben Walker for helping out with the tech. Josie Williams, Community Arts Development Officer On a lovely sunny Saturday in June, Commonweal Concert Band and Choir performed to the audience in the Marquee as part of the Old Town Festival. There was a great atmosphere in the Marquee as Dance opened the Commonweal performances with a fantastic array of dancers, followed by Concert Band. Despite a few nerves, Concert Band performed Summertime, Pirates of the Caribbean and Tequila with a few audience members getting in the spirit of things and joining in with the shout of ‘Tequila’! The Junior Choir followed Concert Band with a fabulous performance of Imagine by The Beatles – a really talented group of Year 7’s to look out for in the future. Senior Choir followed Junior Choir with a performance of ‘Fly Me To The Moon’ and Chamber Choir sang ‘Lollipop’ and the Eva Cassidy arrangement of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’. I was extremely proud of their performances and thought they represented Commonweal School extremely well. We closed the Commonweal Section of the day with Eliesha Kay-Dean (vocals) and James Cumner (guitar) performing an acoustic version of ‘Use Somebody’ by the Kings of Leon. I was extremely impressed by their secure and confident performance and look forward to their next performance! Miss Clements, Head of Music |
