Evenings of Entertainment

The two Evenings of Entertainment held at the school in November were completely sold out! Once again the standard was extremely high which is praise to the students and teachers for their dedication. All clubs feed into performances, a good outlet for their creative talents.

The evening was compered by Sue Derrick, Head of Performing Arts and Yr 11 student Josh Foyster. Josh is a very confident chap with many talents in drama, music and dance.

Praise must also be given to two excellent Yr 11 dancers, Ella Workman and Lauren Martin who have spent every Monday since September running a Yr 6 dance club at Lethbridge Primary, our feeder school.

Mrs Sutcliffe, Head of Music, was once again extremely proud of the many students who performed. The concert band, who lost a large number of key players at the end of last year were back up to their high standard after a serious of grueling rehearsals and the senior choir were very impressive!

The junior choir, although a little nervous due to it being their first performance at Commonweal School, sang very well and I look forward to watching them grow in confidence as the year progresses. Chamber choir, as always, performed professionally and were lucky enough to have a couple of ex-Commonweal students singing with them.

This year's solo items were all vocalists and I think those of you who saw the show will agree that we have a wealth of talent in this area, particularly in Yr 11. Beth Preddy, Carine Conway and Connie Paul have terrific voices and look good on stage. Well done girls and hope you will all have a contribution to add to next year's school CD, Now That's What I Call Commonweal.

'"All the dance clubs and groups worked incredibly hard to get ready for the performance, and their hard work really paid off. Students performed brilliantly on both nights, and should be really proud of what they achieved. Well done!" Mrs Harman, Head of Dance.

Drama delivered three issue based sketches and once again the standard was very high and showed a maturity beyond their years.

Thanks to all who took part, all who helped on the evenings and to all who came along to watch.
