Valentine's Dance
Sounds of the forties were the order of the day at Commonweal School on Valentine’s when the hall stepped back in time to the war years. Our community partners, Swindon Big Band, played to a packed house who danced the night away.
Prior to the concert there was a dance workshop in the drama studio where party goers and Commonweal’s own young dance leaders learnt a simple Waltz and Foxtrot with Maria Howse from Cadley School of Dance. The dance leaders were on hand all evening to help folk with the steps.
During the break a Ploughman’s supper was served, and the school choir sang songs such as Run Rabbit Run and Who Do You Think You Are Kidding Mr Hitler. The school concert band also added to the ambience that proved to be a highly successful evening for the school and the wider community.
Thanks to BBC local radio and the Swindon Advertiser for their continued support in promoting the event.
“It was a really fun evening that crossed many generations from small children to one chap called Alan who served during World War II. We are committed to providing these events which help to strengthen the community,” commented Josie Williams, Community Arts Development Officer.
