Adrian Garratt, international violinist with the comedy classical music trio ‘Pluck’ visited Commonweal School on Monday 22nd June to chat to the GCSE students about his life as a profession al musician.
Adrian describes Pluck as,’ three stupid and inept idiots on stage who just happen to be playing a selection of the well known classics from Bach to Jimi Hendrix!’
Adrian went to school in Wootton Basset and was a member of the Wiltshire Youth Orchestra. He was delighted to be able to come into school and give something back to the community.
“They asked me a lot of questions and were a very enthusiastic class. One of the questions which we often get asked is how do you look interesting on stage when both your hands are playing the violin? Contrary to normal classical performance Pluck make eye contact and pull funny faces to entertain, it’s all about body language,” said Adrain
“It was great to have Adrian in class to inspire the GCSE students. He gives an unusual and fresh approach to classical music which could never be described as boring! The students leant a lot about communicating with the audience and how to pursue a professional career in music
Students and staff watched Pluck when they performed at the Wyvern. The show was hilarious and a high standard of music was delivered. The laughs kept coming as wigs went flying! Audience members were called up on stage and a violin was set
alight!” said Mrs Sutcliffe, Head of Music.
