Evenings Of Entertainment
This year’s Evenings of Entertainment were a great success, with each night a complete sell out! Over 200 students, up by 30 on last year, took part in the show which included music, dance and drama from all year groups. This is one of the main highlights of the year for a performing arts college with a long tradition in the Arts.
“The show provides student’s with wonderful performance opportunities to showcase their hard work and talents, whether that is in curriculum time or products of their work in clubs,” Sue Derrick, Head of Performing Arts.
"The students have been rehearsing some of these iitems since July
and have worked so hard on creating a polished, professional performance.
The standard of musicians this year was very high and we were fortunate enough to be able to include many year 11 GCSE performances despite them concentrating on their mock exams during the same week. The students did themselves proud and it was a joy to be a part of," Mrs Sutcliffe, Head of Music.
“When students leave Commonweal they do not forget their roots and still remain loyal to the school. The Teechers drama performance was a prime example of this. Performers juggled their time with college and work commitments rehearsing until late in the evening to present a polished and professional extracts from the John Godber play, which had been their grade A GCSE exam piece,” Miss Browning.
Dance as always was excellent and this year we had a boys dance group who begged to be allowed to perform on both nights!. “Street dance is a cool thing for boys to do because it’s a way to express the way you feel, it’s a bit like drama or music, but being able to express your feelings in a different way. The show was good because it is a way to show our talent to other people, it was great fun! ” Josh Foyster age 14.
"Helping with the Yr 7 was fun and helped me learn how to be creative with younger students. Singing in the choir was fun because I love working in groups and it helped teach me even more how to listen to others as well as my own part," Chloe Baker age 15
