Old Town Festival
Once again we were delighted to be asked to provide entertainment for this well loved festival. On Saturday 21st June musicians entertained an appreciative audience. Musicians included a number of past students. Cat Jamieson and her band Sweet Plums (pictured) aired their festival mood inducing songs. Dominic French played guitar and sang his own heart yearning songs. Steamin’ Nina, who have just left, played their own pop songs with the utmost style. They were followed by Ella’s Unable and the superb Costellos. If you haven’t seen the latter then you are missing a treat. They are a blend of Indie pop and Eastern European folk!
Now That’s What I Call Commonweal Vol 3, a CD compilation of orginal music featuring students past, present and future and staff, was officially launched and festival folk were encouraged to make their purchases.
The CD was mainly recorded and produced by Nick Weaver, the school’s Performing Arts technician who has made a very professional job of the project. The CD, price £3.99, is available from the school’s finance office.
The Following Saturday a group of dancers, coached by Miss Blake and Miss Derrick, took part in the festival’s parade. Dressed as birds of paradise, the girls throughly enjoyed the experience. Next year we would like to involve a lot more students. Praise must be given to all who have made the Old Town Festival another success, and this year without the rain! Josie Williams
