In order to offer students a challenging and rewarding work experience which ties in with Commonweal School’s Performing Arts status, 15 students were selected to take part in this project working with a professional theatre company.
Big State Theatre Company are partners with the school along with the Wyvern theatre where the work experience was based for the week in April.

Students had to come up with a company name, a mission statement, fill in a grant application form, develop ideas for scripts, develop the plot, and consider aspects relating to multimedia, staging, lighting and sound techniques. Each student was allocated a task from director to publicity officer.

“As a performing arts school the quality of experiences available to our students is paramount. Needless to say, not all students will follow a career in the industry, but lessons learnt are transferable to all areas of adult life. However, the students that shine need the best we can offer.” Keith Defter, Headteacher.

On Friday 2nd May the group performed their show in Studio One, The Wyvern Theatre, to an invited audience. They then performed back in school to the whole of Yr 9.

“We called our company Blue Moon Theatre Company and our show was called,’ Me, Myself and Them’. The performance incorporates comedy and horror, we have had great fun this week, it has been a really good work experience working with professionals,”commented Tylah Devine age 14.
