Our outreach work is very much on a needs led basis and have included African Drumming besides a host of musical opportunities. Feeder schools are encouraged to come up to Commonweal and perform in our Evenings of Entertainment, the annual Spring Concert, and input into the Commonweal yearly CD. Our Head of Music, Ali Sutcliffe, often goes into the feeder schools and shares her knowledge and expertise with both teachers and students. Nick Weaver our Performing Arts technician helps schools with lighting and sound when productions are in full throw both in our feeder schools and in our partner St Luke's special school. This year some of our students are involved with the national Sing Up project where young people are encouraged to go into their feeder schools, deliver singing lessons culminating with a performance. Before Christmas the chamber choir went into Even Swindon Primary School and after Christmas the choir went into Lethbridge Primary School. It is hoped that the primary groups will perform at the Old Town Festival on Saturday 26th June 2010. The songs learnt will also feature on the next edition of the CD Now That's What I Call Commonweal. |
