The Andy Goldsworthy inter-schools project is a partnership between Artsmad, the LEA and Commonweal School. Artsmad co-ordinated the morning sessions in which each school visited the Arts Centre and worked with FE tutor Laurie Plant on a response to Andy Goldsworthy's exhibition. In the afternoon the schools visited Commonweal School and worked with Tracey Baker-Stewart, Commonweal's Artist in Residence. Andy Goldsworthy is a well known artist who makes fantastic transient art pieces from things found in the natural environment. The response in the afternoon sessions was using litter and waste that have become part of the natural environment in schools. The students discussed issues relating to litter and took part in an anti litter slogan competition in which the winning slogan writer of the day won a Mars Bar. This was performed to the camera. Some of the girls during the week made up dance routines in response to the project. Litter attracts rats and are carriers of potentially fatal diseases such as Weil's Disease and Salmonella. Litter and glass especially is a great risk to humans and animals. Plastic bags and can packaging is responsible for the death of many birds and animals. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
