Our partners Reach Inclusive Arts offered a masterclass inset dance session at our school on Nov 8th. This was facilitated by disabled dancer Michael Mitchell and teachers and dance facilitators from around the borough
were invited to attend.

The Commonweal School are committed to establishing and encouraging mechanisms to dovetail arts opportunities and training for disabled people into curricular provision at
The Commonweal School.

We are able to provide rehearsal spaces for inclusive project teams and to create opportunities for disabled people to lead workshops and to share artistic skills with
young people.

Commonweal utilises our partner Reach Inclusive Arts database of disabled artists, mentors, facilitators, workshop leaders to promote personal and professional development for both students and staff.

Michael Mitchell came into school to deliver Disability Equality Training from the perspective of dance and movement. This formed the basis of an approach towards disability arts programmes.

Michael uses breath control and physical perspectives to enable the participant to 'feel' themselves into the mind and body of a disabled person and, therefore, gain a greater understanding of working with people who have disabilities.
