parents/carers grandparents, relatives welcome

A partnership project with The Commonweal School, Swindon Family Learning and Artsmad.

This is the second in our pilot project to provide ‘Arts’ for our extended community.

CAOS Youth Art Club, facilitated by our Artist in Residence, who meet on a Monday lunch time drew up plans to create murals in one of our courtyards. They created drafts of the size of the space and drafts of images and ideas to pull the area together visually. Tracey is a member of CAOS ( Contemporary Artists of Swindon) the club is the town’s very first CAOS Youth Art Club.

Seven local families over three generations took part in the free mural events which encourages families to spend quality time together. It was facilitated by Commonweal’s artist in residence Tracey Baker- Stewart. The theme of the murals is the performing arts with the idea of creating a space that is influenced by the artworks of festivals such as Glastonbury.

Commented Keith Defter Headteacher. “The courtyard was austere and lifeless. It needed colourful artworks to bring the space alive. The Commonweal School serves our local community and this is an ideal opportunity for families to be part of the performing arts.”

Commented Tracey Baker-Stewart “ We welcomed families of all abilities, there was painting jobs for varying degrees of technical ability. Mums and dads gran and granddads came and joined in the fun!”
